Travis Heights is a historic neighborhood in South Austin, Texas, bounded by Lady Bird Lake on the north, Interstate 35 on the east, South Congress Avenue on the west, and East Oltorf Street on the south. The neighborhood is actually a collection of three major historic subdivisions: Swisher's Addition (platted in 1877), Fairview Park (platted in 1886), and Travis Heights (platted in 1913), which have merged together over time to form what residents collectively know as Travis Heights. The Travis Heights-Fairview Park Historic District encompasses approximately 353 acres and represents one of Austin's earliest planned suburban developments, featuring architecture spanning from 1877 to 1971. The neighborhood was developed by the Stacy family and other early developers who were inspired by urban planning trends from the Northeast and Midwest, creating a picturesque suburb with varied lot sizes, deed restrictions against multi-family and commercial use, and a distinctive mix of grid and curvilinear street patterns.
